MIAMI, Sept 3 (Reuters) – A JetBlue airliner with 93 people aboard made an emergency landing in the Bahamas on Thursday after a warning light alerted the crew to a fire in one of its two engines, authorities said.
Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, said the fire in the left engine of the JetBlue Airways Corp (JBLU.O) Embraer jet was extinguished after it touched down at the international airport in Nassau at 1:35 p.m. EDT (1735 GMT).
All 89 passengers aboard the flight, from Orlando, Florida, to Nassau, were safely evacuated by slides and no injuries were reported, Bergen said.
She said the FAA had launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
A JetBlue spokesman could not be reached for immediate comment.
