ATC Blog – Year in Review

One year following the start-up of Wayne Farley’s Aviation Blog, I pause to say thank you to the contributors, faithful followers and readers of my posts. In the course of the year, my posts were read more than 12,000 times with about half this number in the preceding two months. Here’s how it all went down:

One year following the start-up of Wayne Farley’s Aviation Blog, I pause to say thank you to the contributors, faithful followers and readers of my posts. In the course of the year, my posts were read more than 12,000 times with about half this number in the preceding two months.

The increase in traffic to the blog is directly  attributable to the extra time I’ve invested in the portal. Games can do wonders also! I’ve added a few, and this has given me a whole new demographic following (young and restless). In the last two months, I’ve been back on full-time duty in the control tower where the view – I’m told – is wonderful. Maybe I am seeing things clearer up there.

A new category – Aircraft – affords me the opportunity to post some of my own photos which I’m so passionate about shooting. Posts in this category includes some characteristics and performance data that will make visiting the page worth the while. The price tag is there for those (controllers excluded) who can afford it.

Visits to my blog came from 151 countries with the top 5 being the U.S.A., Turks and Caicos Islands, France, Canada and the UK. Guyana, my home country, came in at number 7 – is this luck?

The 5 most popular posts are:

  1. Boeing 787 Dreamliner Animation,
  2. Helicopter Operations in the Gulf of Mexico,
  3. The Britten-Norman Trislander,
  4. ICAO’s English Language Proficiency Requirements, and
  5. Performance-Based Navigation – An Overview.

The dialogue on the blog falls terribly below my expectations. At the time of writing this post, there were 64 posts and 56 comments on the blog. I have however, received numerous comments via email and my Facebook page. I’m flattered by the number of retweets I’ve seen from my Twitter page since it’s setup 8 months ago. I’ve only just started tracking subscribers to my RSS Feeds, but I suspect that this is a popular means of keeping up with my ramblings. I myself keep up with the world of aviation by this means, it’s easy and convenient.

As I ramble past the first anniversary of this blog, I ask of you to engage me more and contribute if you think this is worth your time. As a 22 year veteran of ATC, my experience has taught me that this is easier said that done, but I implore upon you anyway.

Stay tuned for another year, or two!
