ADS-B is a cooperative surveillance technique for air traffic control and related applications being developed as part of global CNS/ATM plan. The successful implementation of this new technology has resulted in many ground systems providing advanced platforms suitable for ATM systems based on the used of data-link and satellite technology.
System Wide Information Management (SWIM) is an international concept which aims to facilitate greater sharing of Air Traffic Management (ATM) system information, such as airport operational status, weather information and flight data in real time. SWIM is essentially the migration from legacy one-to-one information exchange to many-to-many information distribution.
Multilateration techniques were developed by the military decades ago and have been successfully employed for airport surveillance more recently. Today, these same techniques are being used for larger areas to cover the en-route and approach phases of flight. Such systems are called Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) systems.
Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) defines performance requirements for aircraft navigating on an ATS route, terminal procedure or in a designated airspace. It provides a way forward in addressing today’s – and tomorrow’s – aviation system capacity, efficiency, environmental and safety issues.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new surveillance system introduced by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Colorado allows air traffic controllers to track aircraft not covered by radar in remote, mountainous regions.

Boeing has recently completed a critical design review for Required Navigation Performance procedures (RNP) in work at Panama’s Tocumen International Airport and Howard Airport.
The critical design review, which took place at the Copa Airlines training center in Panama City, assesses the “fly-ability” of the procedures and ensures compatibility with airline crew procedures. RNP [...]
Under the ICAO ATM Concept, global airspace will continue to evolve to become a virtual continuum to be efficiently organised and managed for the benefit of all airspace users, civil or military. Its management will fine tune airspace and airport operations to maximise the use of available runway and terminal area capacity and to deliver [...]
MEVA is an acronym for the Spanish phrase “Mejoras a los Enlaces de Voz ATS”, meaning “Improvement to ATS Voice Link.” The MEVA project is an important part of the ICAO Caribbean Region’s efforts to effect a gradual migration from legacy communication technology to more widely adopted protocols.
The MEVA project forms part of the Regional [...]
